Zimbabwe on Track to Record-Breaking Wheat Harvest

Government’s Food Security Efforts Pay Off Amidst Drought

Harare, Zimbabwe – Despite the devastating El-Nino induced drought that has ravaged the Southern African region, Zimbabwe is poised to achieve a record-breaking wheat harvest of over 600,000 tonnes, surpassing the national target of 120,000 hectares.

Wheat Farmers Defy Drought Odds

According to reports, wheat farmers have planted 121,769 hectares this season, a significant 34% increase from last year’s 91,000 hectares. This remarkable feat is a testament to the Government’s efforts to enhance national food security, particularly in the face of climate change.

National Annual Wheat Requirement Met

The projected harvest of over 600,000 tonnes exceeds the national annual wheat requirement of 360,000 tonnes, signaling a significant step towards achieving food self-sufficiency.

Government’s Proactive Approach

This development comes on the heels of the Second Republic’s assurance that Zimbabwe would emerge stronger and more resilient from the current drought situation. The Government’s proactive measures, including increasing wheat production, have paid off, ensuring that the country is better equipped to withstand future climate-related shocks.
