Biti’s Hypocrisy Exposed: Laws Apply to All, Not Just Opposition

In a recent interview with NewsDay, Tendai Biti, former CCC rotational president and lawyer, made comments that reek of hypocrisy and a clear lack of understanding of the rule of law. Biti claimed that the arrest of Neville Mutsvangwa, son of senior ZANU PF members Christopher and Monica Mutsvangwa, was a result of political differences within ZANU PF and the weaponisation of the law by the ruling party.

However, this argument falls flat when one considers that laws are put in place to deal with everyone who breaks them, regardless of their political affiliation or social status. Biti, a lawyer by profession, should know better than to suggest that the law only applies to certain groups of people.

The arrest of Neville Mutsvangwa on allegations of money laundering and illegal dealing in foreign currency is a clear indication that no one is above the law, not even the children of senior ZANU PF members. It is ironic that opposition activists like Biti are quick to cry foul when their colleagues are arrested, claiming selective application of the law, but when ZANU PF individuals face arrest, they suddenly shift their narrative to suggest internal factionalism and divisions within the party.

It’s time for Biti and other opposition politicians to acknowledge that the law is blind and applies equally to all citizens. No one is immune to arrest, regardless of their position in society. The Zimbabwean Patriot calls for an end to this hypocrisy and for all citizens to be held accountable for their actions, regardless of their political affiliation.
