Mbudzi Interchange Project Reaches 85% Completion: Transforming Harare’s Traffic Flow
The $88 million Mbudzi Interchange Project, a flagship infrastructure development under Zimbabwe’s Second Republic, has reached 85% completion, marking significant progress towards alleviating traffic congestion at one of Harare’s busiest junctions. Progress Update
Current activities include erosion control measures and the dumping of crushed stone base material at Bridge No. 1 Underpass. With the deck level nearly complete on several bridges, the focus will soon shift to essential final steps, such as compaction, priming, tack coating, surfacing (tarring), road markings, and signage installation. Completion is targeted by the end of 2024
Strategic Impact
This development is set to eliminate the notorious gridlock associated with the old Mbudzi Roundabout. By separating traffic flows with dedicated lanes and ramps, the interchange will improve safety and reduce travel time. Furthermore, the interchange will integrate seamlessly with major roads such as Simon Mazorodze, Chitungwiza, and High Glen, boosting regional connectivity and supporting commerce
