First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa Launches Big Five Empowerment Package at Hauna Growth Point

In a historic move aimed at transforming Zimbabwe’s rural economy, First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa launched the Big Five Empowerment Package today at Hauna Growth Point in Honde Valley, Manicaland. The initiative focuses on five key agricultural flagship programs designed to boost household income, create jobs, and enhance food security.

The launch saw thousands of people, including government officials, stakeholders, and community members, gather to witness this ambitious project, which aligns with the country’s National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and Vision 2030 goals.


Five Pillars of Empowerment

The Big Five Empowerment Package emphasizes:

  1. Horticulture: Training and inputs for the cultivation of high-value crops.
  2. Livestock Production: Focused on improving small-scale cattle and goat farming.
  3. Poultry Farming: Support for women and youth in the production of chickens and eggs.
  4. Aquaculture: Expansion of fish farming projects in rural areas.
  5. Bee Keeping: Encouraging apiculture to generate additional income and promote biodiversity.

These sectors have been identified for their potential to empower marginalized groups, particularly women and youth, and to create sustainable livelihoods.


Addressing Rural Challenges

Speaking at the event, the First Lady emphasized that the initiative is tailored to address specific rural challenges, including limited access to resources and markets. She highlighted the importance of community involvement in ensuring the success of these projects.

The launch also included the distribution of inputs, such as seeds, fertilizers, and equipment, to local farmers. Additionally, training programs have been initiated to equip participants with the skills needed to maximize productivity and manage businesses effectively.
