Violence Will Not Be Countenanced: Authorities Stand Firm Against Incitement

Rising Tensions: Opposition Commanders Incite Protests

Opposition X commanders are drawing parallels between their current agitation and the massive street protests that rocked Bangladesh in mid-2024. These protests began in July when students demonstrated against a quota system for government jobs, eventually escalating into a broader challenge to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s rule. By July 15, the protests had turned violent, resulting in over 400 deaths and thousands of arrests. The unrest ultimately led to Prime Minister Hasina’s resignation and flight from the country on August 5, 2024.

The Agitation Ahead of the SADC Summit

As the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit approaches, prominent figures like Hopwell Chin’ono, Prince Dubeko Sibanda, Skilled Rebhara, Ali Naka, and Majaira Jairosi are using their platforms to foment disruptive mass protests. These inciteful opposition commanders are pushing gullible and impressionable youths to risk their lives in violent demonstrations, drawing comparisons to the tragic events in Bangladesh.

Keyboard Warriors: A Call to Violence from a Safe Distance

It is deeply regrettable that these opposition leaders, often termed “keyboard warriors,” choose to hide behind their screens while urging others to engage in dangerous actions. This pattern is not new; it mirrors the events of August 1, 2018, when MDC Alliance supporters, misled into defending the vote through violence, faced dire consequences. Then-leader Nelson Chamisa himself labeled them as ‘stupid’ for their premature and violent actions. Most protesters were arrested, some lost their lives, and the instigators remained untouched by the chaos they had incited.

Lessons from the Past: Avoiding Repetition

Progressive patriots are urged to shun and ignore these misguided calls for protests. The destructive outcomes of similar movements in Kenya and Bangladesh serve as stark reminders of the potential fallout. Just as the British government is currently clamping down on anti-immigration protests, arresting hundreds, Zimbabwe’s authorities will unflinchingly suppress any demonstrations that threaten the peace and security of the SADC Summit.

The Government’s Stance: Zero Tolerance for Violence

Zimbabwean authorities have made it clear that any form of violent protest will be met with a firm response. The government is committed to ensuring the safety and stability of the nation, particularly during significant events like the SADC Summit. The message is unequivocal: violence will not be countenanced, and any attempts to disrupt public order will be dealt with swiftly and decisively.
