Hit-and-Run Incidents in Masvingo and Wedza Under Investigation

On December 30, 2024, a police officer directing traffic along Robert Mugabe Way near Chevron Hotel in Masvingo was injured in a hit-and-run incident. The officer sustained a swollen heel after being struck by a white Nissan AD Van, registration number AFV 1597. The driver fled the scene without rendering assistance.
In a separate incident on the same day, an unidentified man was fatally struck by an unknown motorist at the 38-kilometre mark along the Harare-Wedza Road. The driver did not stop following the collision.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is actively investigating both cases and urges anyone with pertinent information to come forward. National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi emphasized the importance of public cooperation in these investigations.
These incidents highlight ongoing concerns about road safety and the prevalence of hit-and-run accidents in Zimbabwe. The ZRP continues to appeal to motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic laws to prevent such tragedies.
