President Mnangagwa Calls for Unity, Peace, and Patriotism at Zimbabwe’s 45th Independence Day Celebrations

NEMBUDZIYA, GOKWE NORTH – April 18, 2025

As Zimbabwe commemorated 45 years of independence, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa delivered a stirring address at the Mutora Open Grounds in Nembudziya, Gokwe North. The President’s speech emphasized unity, peace, and patriotism as essential pillars for national development.​


A Call for Collective Responsibility​

In his address, President Mnangagwa reminded citizens of their shared duty to safeguard Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and independence. He stated, “Each of us has a duty to protect our nation from elements, both within and outside our borders, who want the regression of our national development course.” The President highlighted the importance of focus, discipline, and togetherness in driving the nation’s progress.​


Honoring the Security Forces​

President Mnangagwa paid tribute to the nation’s security services for their unwavering commitment to defending Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He expressed gratitude for their loyalty and patriotism, acknowledging their role in maintaining peace and stability.​


Theme: “Zim@45: Devolve and Develop Together Towards Vision 2030″​

This year’s Independence Day celebrations were held under the theme “Zim@45: Devolve and Develop Together Towards Vision 2030.” The event in Nembudziya marked the first time the national celebrations were hosted in Gokwe North, aligning with the government’s decentralization efforts to ensure inclusive development across all regions.


Infrastructure Development and Community Engagement​

In preparation for the celebrations, significant infrastructure projects were undertaken in Gokwe North. These included the construction of facilities at the main arena, the gala site at Nembudziya Government High School, and the Children’s Party venue at Nyamuroro High School. These developments not only facilitated the Independence Day events but also contributed to the long-term growth of the region. ​


Celebrating Cultural Heritage​

The festivities featured traditional dance performances, school choirs, and the lighting of the Independence Flame by President Mnangagwa. These activities celebrated Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage and symbolized the nation’s enduring commitment to unity and progress. ​
