In a recent attempt to galvanize public dissent, self-exiled war veteran Blessed Geza’s call for nationwide protests against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration was met with widespread indifference and a swift government response.

A Call to Action That Fell on Deaf Ears

Blessed Geza, once a member of the ZANU-PF Central Committee, resurfaced online urging Zimbabweans to participate in mass stayaway 22-23 April , 2025, demanding President Mnangagwa’s resignation. Clad in military attire, Geza accused top government officials of corruption and called for an uprising across the nation. However, the anticipated demonstrations failed to materialize, with cities like Harare and Bulawayo remaining largely quiet.

Government’s Firm Stance Against Dissent

The Zimbabwean government swiftly dismissed Geza’s calls as “delusional rumblings.” Information Minister Jenfan Muswere emphasized that law enforcement agencies were prepared to prevent any violent demonstrations, urging citizens to ignore Geza’s appeals.

Public’s Commitment to Stability

The lack of public response to Geza’s protest call underscores Zimbabweans’ preference for peace and stability. Despite economic challenges, citizens chose to maintain their daily routines, reflecting a collective resilience and dedication to national progress.

Geza’s Political Isolation

Following his protest calls, Geza was expelled from ZANU-PF and now faces multiple charges, including incitement to commit public violence and undermining the authority of the President. His current whereabouts remain unknown, and authorities continue to seek his arrest.

Conclusion

Blessed Geza’s failed attempt to incite nationwide protests highlights the challenges faced by political dissidents in Zimbabwe. The government’s decisive actions and the public’s commitment to stability suggest that any efforts to disrupt the nation’s peace will be met with resistance.
