Senior Manager at Old Mutual Accused of Raping Intern: A Growing Scandal

Harare, Zimbabwe — A senior manager at Old Mutual, Musa Nyasha Dube Manyika, has been accused of raping a 23-year-old intern on two separate occasions, leading to a court appearance that has sparked widespread outrage. The case is being handled under CRB HRE 1529/24, and Manyika was granted free bail by the Harare Magistrates’ Court.

The alleged victim, a University of Zimbabwe (UZ) third-year student, had been under the Old Mutual Scholarship since 2022. Manyika, a member of the scholarship committee and Business Development Manager at Old Mutual, first met her in November 2022 when he asked her to assist with packing banners at the Old Mutual Gardens. The State alleges that this encounter culminated in the first assault in his office.

The second alleged assault occurred on June 19, 2024, when Manyika arranged a meeting with the intern at Ashbrittle Shopping Center. Reports suggest he coerced her into his car and committed the act without her consent, intensifying the case against him. Both incidents reportedly involved threats to withdraw her scholarship if she disclosed what happened.
